Geology and Prospectivity
The geology is dominated by mafic volcanic rocks and sedimentary rocks west of the shear, with a granitic intrusion to the east. The basement comprises Archaean metavolcanic and metasedimentary rocks of the Cleaverville Terrane. These rocks are locally overlain by sub-horizontal Fortescue Group rocks forming the basal succession of the Hamersley Basin.
Key prospect areas include the Awassi Rare Earth Prospect, Dorper Nickel Prospect and Suffolk Zinc–Lead Prospect. Gold anomalism has also been reported, with values ranging from >5 ppb to 1 g/t Au (ASX: CZR, 2019).
Field investigations and grab-sample assessment have identified REE–Nb–Zr–Ba–Sr geochemical anomalism and Th–U radiometric responses that may indicate the presence of an alkalic intrusion or carbonatite-hosted REE system.
