The Yarrie Project covers approximately 144 km² and is located approximately 160 km east of Port Hedland in the Pilbara region of Western Australia. The tenement is situated adjacent to BHP’s Goldsworthy–Yarrie mining centre and approximately 90 km northeast of Marble Bar.
The project is serviced by bitumen and gravel roads, a natural gas pipeline between Port Hedland and the Telfer copper–gold mine, and a BHP-owned rail connection between the Yarrie mining area and Port Hedland.
Supergene and deeper hydrothermal enrichment of iron mineralisation is ,hosted within the Archean Nimingarra Iron Formation. Secondary deposits also occur as conglomeratic detritus derived from erosion of primary iron deposits. Gold and associated base-metal mineralisation is interpreted to be structurally controlled within metavolcanic and metasedimentary sequences.
Key prospect include the Cabbage Tree and Kennedy Gap areas. At the Cabbage Tree prospect, high grade iron mineralisation has been intersected at the base of the Nimingarra formation with results including:
3 m @ 62.1% Fe and 3 m @ 62.5% Fe (07DHRC-026).
14 m @ 60.8% Fe and 3 m @ 63.4% Fe (06DHRC-011).
19 m @ 63.4% Fe (06DHRC-012).
4 m @ 67.4% Fe (06-DHRC-019).
Further geological interpretation of the geochemical dataset will be undertaken to assess prospectivity. The significant iron potential will be reviewed and planning for the next stage of drill programs will be undertaken. Field trips are planned to the Cabbage Tree, Kennedy Gap and southern gold targets to asses each prospect and plan next phases of work.
